PID DiMarco Receives French AwardPast International Director Ross DiMarco has received the Legion of Honor, the highest award of France. The medal was actually created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and is considered very prestigious. The honor was given to PID DiMarco and three other recipients at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in early November for the role each played in helping to free France from Nazi domination. As a member of the 110th Anti-aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion of the 29th Infantry Division, PID DiMarco was a combat medic in 1944 when his unit landed in Normandy. Humble as always, DiMarco credits everyone who laid down his life in the D-Day Invasion on Omaha Beach for his own safety and stated that all the men in his unit were just as deserving of this medal as he. PID DiMarco is well known in District 14-M where he has been an active member of the Uniontown Lions Club for 60 years. His many accomplishments in Lionism, including the Ross F. DiMarco Scholarship awarded to worthy students each year, continue to make him a hero today.
